The basis of such wide achievements of Rabindranath Tagore was success achieved only till Kolkata and surrounding areas for 51 years. During a period of 51 years, when Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was going on a migration to England with his sons, he started translating his poetry collection ‘Gitanjali’ into the English language with the aim of spending time on the sea route.

 

 

 

He translated his immortal work ‘Gitanjali’ with his own hand in a notebook. The notebook was not remembered when Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s son got off the ship. The suitcase in which the notebook was kept was left on the ship itself. Perhaps destiny did not approve of the extinction of this immortal work in this way. The person who had received that suitcase had delivered that suitcase to Rabindranath Tagore the very next day.

 

 

 

Rabindranath Tagore’s friend Rothstein, who was a painter, living in London, came to know that Rabindranath Tagore himself had translated Gitanjali into English language, then he expressed his desire to read Gitanjali. After reading the English translation of Gitanjali, Rothstein could not help but be captivated by that immortal masterpiece. Gitanjali completely charmed Rothstein.

 

 

 

My friend W.B. Rothstein gave Yeats the same notebook to read while telling him about Gitanjali. After this Gitanjali became complete history. Yeats himself wrote the preface to the original English-language version of Gitanjali. A limited number of copies of the English language translation of Gitanjali were published in September 1912 in collaboration with the India Society.

 

 

 

 

The whole world was hypnotized by the melody of Gitanjali’s words. ‘Gitanjali’ was widely praised in the literary circles in London. Indian ‘Manisha’ was seen for the first time by Western countries. A year after the publication of Gitanjali, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the ‘Nobel Prize’. Rabindranath Tagore was the first person from the ‘continent of Asia’ to receive the Nobel Prize.
